More than a dozen states quickly embraced new federal guidelines that say fully vaccinated Americans no longer need to wear masks indoors or out in most cases.

The agency also said fully vaccinated people don't have to wear masks outdoors, even in crowded spaces.
Under the new federal guidelines, anyone who is two weeks or more past their final vaccination can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without a mask or physical distancing.

Kroger, the largest USA supermarket chain, said the company would still require everyone in its stores to wear masks and continue to encourage social distancing.
Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Kentucky, Washington, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, North Carolina, Kansas, Colorado and Rhode Island announced plans to fall in line with the CDC guidance either immediately or in the coming weeks. Kroger is trying to incentivize vaccinations among retail employees by offering $100 to those who get them.
But Scott Dolch, executive director of the Connecticut Restaurant Association, said he has heard from numerous owners who want more information about how the new rule will work in practice, with some concerned about being put in the hard position of determining whether customers are truly vaccinated.
He said the state's mask mandate would remain in place for now. "The safety of our team members and customers is our top priority and will continue to guide our decision process".
"The experience in other states has been that some individuals may choose to wear masks, and many businesses, schools, hospitals, and other employers may choose to require masks in their buildings", the governor said in a statement.
