Airlines for America, a group representing major USA airlines including American Airlines, Delta Air lines, United Airlines Southwest Airlines, and other trade groups had urged the CDC on March 22 to immediately update its guidance to say "vaccinated individuals can travel safely".
CDC defines "fully vaccinated" as at least 2 weeks after receiving the last recommended dose of an FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine.
The CDC has updated their guidance for fully vaccinated Americans and now says they can now resume travel with low risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19.

The CDC advised that people celebrate by avoiding large crowds and gather with people in their immediate household. "COVID ranked as the third leading cause of underlying death", said Dr. Rochelle Walensky, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention yesterday at the White House COVID-19 Response Team Briefing.
- Fully vaccinated people can travel within the USA, without getting tested for the coronavirus or quarantining.
Unless required to do so by the global destination, fully vaccinated people no longer require a test, and they no longer have to self-quarantine after returning to the USA, unless required to do so by a state or local jurisdiction.

Worldwide travelers are still required to show a negative COVID-19 test to board a flight heading to the United States, and are recommended to get another test three to five days after returning. He said the CDC's acknowledgment that vaccinations eliminate the need for testing and quarantine removes a key barrier to domestic travel.
Air travel still remains down 43% from pre-COVID levels and business and global travel remain even harder hit. The state travel advisory also says nonessential travelers who don't get tested should self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
The airline group praised the CDC's "updated travel guidance" that eases "travel restrictions for fully vaccinated individuals".
