Working with Jessica on Election was such a pleasure. The Election star died unexpectedly last month, her family has confirmed to TMZ.

Reese Witherspoon took to her Twitter to pay tribute to Jessica, writing: "So heartbroken to hear this". They said Campbell had congestion, thinking she was coming down with a cold, but the family didn't suspect COVID.

"While coping with this unexpected and tragic turn of events and planning for Oliver's future, the family is also faced with unexpected cremation, memorial, and probate expenses".

Campbell had retired from her acting career to become a naturopathic physician. She apparently went to the bathroom and never came out.

She played Chris' younger sister in the popular film. Judd Apatow - executive producer of "Freaks and Geeks" - donated $5,000.

Campbell hadn't appeared in a film since 2002 and later worked as a naturopathic practitioner. He said Election "was the first" big film "for both of us".

Broderick, who played civics teacher Jim McAllister, told The Hollywood Reporter, "When I think of Jessica I remember a shy, incredibly sweet, very pink-cheeked teenager who liked to discuss with me what is best to order at Applebee's".

While it's unclear when she pivoted to become a doctor, the GoFundMe page noted that, "on multiple occasions", she "dropped everything to travel across state lines and care for her loved ones in need".

According to TMZ, Jessica Campbell has died at the age of 38.

The family is waiting on an autopsy form the Multnomah County Medical Examiner's office in Oregon.

Campbell forged a career in acting in the 1990s.

Campbell also starred alongside Seth Rogan and James Franco in Freaks and Geeks.
