Lunar eclipse coming Sunday night, though hard to see

On Monday morning, "the moon will take 4 hours and 21 minutes to glide across the pale outer fringe (penumbra) of Earth's shadow, never reaching the shadow's dark umbra", says Space.com astronomy writer Joe Rao.

The first penumbral lunar eclipse of 2020 comes on 10 January, and will be visible throughout much of the world, except for the United States, central Canada, and most of South America. The new treat is a penumbral eclipse that is visible when the moon moves through the outer shadow cast by Earth.

A penumbral lunar eclipse will take place late Sunday night in Monday morning, November 29 to 30, according to NASA, gradually darkening the face of the moon for more than four hours.

The actual phenomenon behind the lunar eclipse is the coming of the Earth, the Sun and the Moon in one straight line when the Moon moves through the Earth's penumbra. After November 30, only one celestial eclipse will remain.

In addition to the popular "beaver moon" moniker, the November full moon also has been coined the "hunter moon", the "mourning moon", the "reed moon" and the "frost moon" - a reference to the weather getting colder during this month. This will be the fourth lunar eclipse and will be a penumbral one during which the shade of the Moon will turn darker for a few hours. Lunar eclipse is a celestial event which takes place as the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon.

Two more lunar eclipses will be visible in the Pacific Northwest over the next two years. As the Moon will be below the horizon some time therefore, only part of the eclipse will be visible in India. A number of live streams will be available online for interested viewers. While the penumbral eclipse will be detectable in parts of South America as the moon starts to set, people in Central Asia and Australia will be able to see it while the moon is rising.

But experts say that the event will be hard to catch without proper instrumentation. Certain signs can expect to see life-altering changes take place, while some may find peace and clarity they have been looking for long. After the lunar eclipse event of November 30 gets over, another solar eclipse event will occur on December 14.
