Within the video clip, which went viral over the weekend, Shapeero may be heard saying, "These poor individuals stay in these tiny residences". He repeatedly refused to elaborate any further about the incident because he's speaking with PR people and will eventually release a statement.
British television director Tristram Shapeero has apologized to Euphoria star Lukas Gage after he was caught on camera criticizing the young actor's "tiny apartment" during an audition conducted over Zoom.
To his credit, Gage not only takes the insulting remark in stride, but he also tries to use it to appeal for the part. Gage then replied: "I do know it's a shitty residence".
He offers an "unvarnished apology" to Gage for his "unacceptable and insensitive remarks".More news: Canada's 'glaring' vaccine production gaps took homemade vaccine candidates off the table
Shapeero is a prolific TV director, with more than 20 years of experience. "I am Tristram Shapeero, a 20-year veteran television director, half in the United Kingdom, and the second half here in the USA", the director began his apology note. "But that's why ... give me this job and I'll get a better one". "My words were being spoken from a genuine place of appreciation for what the actors were having to endure." and vowed to, "move forward from this incident a more empathetic man".
Gage hit headlines when he shared a short clip of the recorded audition to his Instagram page, writing alongside it: "psa: if youre a s**t talking director make sure to mute ur mic on zoom mtgings".
The audition took place in August 2020, so it is not clear why Gage has only now made a decision to share the footage on social media.
Although the director behind the comment was not identified in Gage's tweet, celebrities and fans alike soon put their heads together and began to guess that Shapeero was behind it. Shapeero has previously directed episodes of "Never Have I Ever", "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist", "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt", "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Community", among others.More news: Opposition slams Trudeau government over COVID-19 vaccine delays
'As I say on the video, I'm mortified about what happened.
That is when Gage chimes in to remind Shapeero that he is unmuted. I'm mortified", the director says in embarrassment, as Gage quips: "Listen, I'm living in a four-by-four box.
Lukas Gage attempted to laugh off the insults from the Hollywood director in the Zoom video.
After the original video was shared, Gage received support from prominent figures in USA entertainment such as Seth MacFarlane, Judd Apatow, and Billy Eichner. So did Superstar's Molly Shannon, who's now shooting the HBO limited series The White Lotus with Gage in Hawaii. "You have to look up the definition", he said in a video published by TMZ.More news: AstraZeneca CEO says new global trial on COVID-19 vaccine likely
