Salah among FIFA's best male players of 2020 award nominees

Argentine Bielsa was an eye-catching inclusion having led Leeds to the Championship title to end their long Premier League absence.

The final shortlist for the 2020 FIFA The Best Men's Player of the Year award has been revealed, with Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah all nominated for the prize.

Besides Polish striker Lewandowski, one other victor of the Champions League with Bayern Munich made the list, Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who joined Liverpool in September.

Two expert panels - one for women's football and one for men's football - have selected the candidates for each category, FIFA said on its website on Wednesday.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, the Premier League's player of the year last season, also made the shortlist as did Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

Flick, who took charge in November previous year, was nominated for the best men's coach along with Liverpool's Juergen Klopp, Leeds United's Marcelo Bielsa, Real's Zinedine Zidane and Sevilla's Europa League-winning coach Julen Lopetegui.

Jean-Luc Vasseur of Lyon is nominated for best coach in women's football along with Emma Hayes of Chelsea and Dutch director Sarina Wiegman, finalist in the previous edition.

The award ceremony, which was earlier scheduled to take place in September but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be held virtually on December 17.

Barcelona superstar Messi, who won the accolade previous year, leads the 11-man list of players up for the individual gong, which will be presented at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony on December 17.

Fans will also be allowed to make their vote count with public voting on FIFA's website open until December 9.
