Google teams up with Disney for ‘The Mandalorian’ AR experience

Depth API allowed the Mandalorian AR characters to realistically appear in front or behind real-world objects.

Google has partnered with Disney and Lucasfilm to bring the Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, to augmented reality via its new app, "The Mandalorian" AR Experience. "New episodes of the experience will come to the app weekly, however, so it's likely Season 2 will soon be part of the experience", The Verge reports.

Google said The Mandalorian AR Experience "puts you in the shoes of a bounty hunter following the trail of Mando himself, Din Djarin, and The Child".

Google's Artificial Reality (AR) tech isn't revolutionising anything in the eye of the consumer, but it is bringing small moments of joy into our homes.

A Website, Google has confirmed its new 'introductionMontreal AR experience.

In order to produce an entirely original experience, Google, Disney and Lucasfilm worked together to enable a next generation AR application optimized for 5G devices. To get started, fans of the show need to download Dedicated Android app From the Google Play Store. Google and Disney have chose to cash in on the hype with the launch of a free AR app. What is less expected, however, is that the actual list of supported phones is surprisingly low. While you don't need a 5G connection to use the app, you can check this support list to see if you're even able to run it on your device. However, Google chose to restrict the experience to 5G Android phones only - perhaps it became the preferred communications technology after the fall of the Empire.
