Fox has led cable news network ratings for years, so any challenge is a formidable task.
Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy said they "are not actively selling", although he conceded that "investors, investment banks and strategic players", have expressed interest in his news outlet.
One reason is that Trump has been urging his followers to leave Fox News and start watching networks like Newsmax and OANN after Fox News called the presidential election for Joe Biden last Saturday, while Newsmax is still claiming Biden is not the president-elect; music to Trump and his supporters' ears.More news: Gov. Fox News also took shots from some critics after host Neil Cavuto cut away from White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany's speech during a Trump campaign news conference, and after leaked off-air footage went viral showing anchor Sandra Smith who expressed concern over claims by a guest who stated, "Remember, just because CNN says, or even Fox News says that somebody's president doesn't make them president".
Yet Newsmax's burst, whether or not it lasts, has been astonishingly swift and could foreshadow the first serious threat to Fox News Channel's dominance with conservative viewers in two decades.
"We've really cornered Fox from the right", said Chris Ruddy, Newsmax founder and friend of Mr. Trump.
Fox News has unveiled a new marketing campaign with the slogan: "Standing Up For What's Right". The top executive was cited saying, "We have always seen ourselves as an independent news agency, and we want to continue with that mission". "This whole idea of a president-elect, it is a media fabrication", Kelly said. Days after the November 3 election, some Trump supporters were heard chanting "Fox sucks" in Arizona outside a vote counting location - reportedly because they were upset the network had called Arizona for Joe Biden before most other media outlets.More news: U.S. election: Georgia vote audit confirms Biden victory
Even though Ruddy concedes in an interview that Trump has an extremely narrow chance of overturning the results, he said it's up to the states, not media organizations, to declare a victor.
"We listen to them, but our main focus is continuing: We would like to overtake Fox News in the next 12 months, and I think it's do-able". Newsmax said it has no deal with Hicks. Ruddy said it never materialized into anything.
For conservative media, the overshadowing mystery is what Trump decides to do when he leaves office, whether he decides to start a media organization of his own or join an existing one. Perhaps weekly, he said, and Newsmax would be interested in having him.More news: How to enable WhatsApp disappearing messages feature on Android, iOS and KaiOS
