Rupert Murdoch, executive chairman of News Corporation, and his other son Lachlan, co-chairman, issued a joint statement on Friday. Lachlan is also the executive chairman and CEO of Fox Corporation which owns the right-wing U.S. network Fox News.
"On July 31, 2020, News Corporation (the "Company") received a letter from James R. Murdoch tendering his resignation from the Company's Board of Directors (the "Board"), effective immediately".
James Murdoch once told Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Radhika Jones that he does not watch Fox News, and has called opinion programming on United States cable news not "terribly helpful".More news: Coronavirus restrictions reimposed in parts of northern England
A spokesperson for James Murdoch said in January that he and his wife, Kathryn Murdoch, were "particularly disappointed with the ongoing denial among the news outlets in Australia given obvious evidence to the contrary".

But Mr Murdoch has previously criticised News Corp outlets, which include the Wall Street Journal, for climate change coverage.
