Wallace explained that the proximity of the spacecraft to Earth immediately after launch saturated the ground station receivers of the DSN, disrupting the transfer of information. Navigation data indicate the spacecraft is perfectly on course to Mars.
The victor, Alex Mather of Lake Braddock Secondary School in Virginia, wrote, "We are a species of explorers, and we will meet many setbacks on the way to Mars. Perseverance is the fifth Mars rover sent by NASA to Mars, after Sojourner, Spirit, Opportunity, and Curiosity.
NASA has made a successful historic launch to the red planet - Mars in quest to find if it would be possible for humans to one day stay in that planet, and at the same time scout the planet for evidence of ancient life.
The €2.3bn ($2.7bn) rover will not only analyse the surface itself but also take and store samples to be collected by a future mission to Mars, and brought back to Earth for study. The rover will store half-ounce (15-gram) rock samples in dozens of super-sterilized titanium tubes.

This was the third launch from Earth to Mars this month, following probes sent by the United Arab Emirates and China. It is also the first Chinese rover mission to Mars, putting it on the same level as other world powers traveling to space like the United States. When the rover reaches a suitable location it will drop the tubes onto the surface of Mars to be collected by a future retrieval mission, which is now under development. Even the tires on the rover are specifically created to roll over the red planet's surface, and those were developed right here in Northeast Ohio at the NASA Glenn Research Center.
