On the same day streaming platform Twitch suspended Donald Trump's account for violating their hateful conduct policy, social networking site Reddit has shut down its largest group supportive of the president.
In 2018 co-founder and chief executive Steve Huffman said in a user Q&A that racism and "open slurs" were not against Reddit's policies.
"Ultimately, it's our responsibility to support our communities by taking stronger action against those who try to weaponize parts of Reddit against other people", Reddit said in a post about its policy update. Today, the company announced that it has banned about 2,000 subreddits, including one of the most prominent pro-Trump forums, r/the_donald.
Reddit has over 430 million average active monthly users, more than 130,000 active communities and is the fifth most-visited site in the United States, according to the company.More news: The new normal? Japanese startup creates ‘connected’ face masks
"Hateful conduct is not allowed on Twitch", a spokeswoman for the Amazon-owned company said in a statement.
The second violation, cited by Twitch, referred to a portion of Trump's recent rally in Tulsa, Okla., where he outlined a scenario of "a very tough hombre" breaking into a sleeping woman's house at night.
A company spokesperson said the channel violated its rules by rebroadcasting a video of Trump's 2015 event kicking off his presidential candidacy, in which he referred to Mexican immigrants as "rapists".

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Reddit moved to ban its r/The_Donald and r/ChapoTrapHouse subreddits on Monday in an effort to more explicitly curb hate speech on its platform.
The rules specify communities and users can't promote hate based on identity or harass other communities online.

Last month it announced a new advisory council to help improve safety on the site, focusing on areas such as harassment and protection of marginalized groups.
