The recovery fund package comes in addition to the EU's long-term budget for 2021-27, which the Commission proposed should be set at €1.100 trillion ($1.21 trillion).
The commission plan hews close to a joint Franco-German statement, which last week called for a €500bn recovery fund and was supported by Italy and Spain.

Von der Leyen presented the EC's proposal for the 750 billion euro recovery fund to the European Parliament, calling it a Next Generation EU instrument. National EU leaders will hold discussions at a summit on 19 June but any final deal is likely to take longer.

Moreover, the European Commission's strategy alludes to a new Action Plan on Critical Raw Materials, which would aim to strengthen crucial markets in a sustainable way for e-mobility, batteries, renewable energies, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, defence and digital applications.
