Governor Andrew Cuomo is warning that the outbreak in the state could reach its peak as soon as two weeks from now rather than the previously projected 45 days - and 26,000 people could die if the federal government doesn't help him acquire more badly needed ventilators.
"The arrows are pointing in the right direction, and that's always better than them heading in the wrong direction".
"Can you slow the spread?" he said.
"What we are working on is a common challenge - no one has these ventilators, and no one ever anticipated a situation where you would need this number of ventilators to deal with a public health emergency", Cuomo said.
Dani Lever, Cuomo's communications director, told TheWrap via email, "He obviously didn't read the document he's citing - this was a 5 year old advisory task force report, which never recommended the State procure ventilators - it merely referenced that NY wouldn't be equipped with enough ventilators for a 1918 flu pandemic". The rate of infection is doubling every three days. New York reported about half of those cases-25,665, including nearly 15,000 in New York City.More news: Trudeau's emergency benefit now giving $2000 a month for 4 months
Cuomo warned that if these measures to reduce the density did not work on a voluntary basis, then the city would make the guidelines mandatory. One of the forecasters said to me, we were looking at a freight train coming across the country, we're now looking at a bullet train, because the numbers are going up that quickly.

"New York is definitely a hot spot, there's no question about it", President Donald Trump said Tuesday evening.
At a Fox News telephone town hall later in the day, Mr. Trump argued that Mr. Cuomo should have bought ventilators five years ago in anticipation of a potential pandemic. At Elmhurst Hospital Centre in New York's Queens borough, scores of people, most wearing surgical masks, lined up on Wednesday to be tested at a tent outside.
"If we don't knock this thing down, our health care system can not handle this strain if it comes on too fast", he said. "We're gonna lose some people".

Social distancing measures like forcing the closure of non-essential businesses and ordering people to stay home with some exceptions appear to be working in combating the spread of the CCP virus, New York Gov. "New York is going first". If the latest projections prove accurate, the state will have to find even more hospital beds now.

The Jacob Javits Center - a landmark convention center in midtown Manhattan - is being repurposed as a temporary hospital for Covid-19, along with four other sites selected by the army corps of engineers.
"Let's try this again, @realdonaldtrump: Hospitals are already running out of ventilators and beds".
Calling Trump racist is one point, however urging Americans not to listen to him about the most terrible situation our country has actually dealt with in years goes across the line. "That is a bad combination of facts". "That is a dramatic increase in the rate of infection". "I would love to have the country opened up and just raring to go by Easter". "Or you'll end up paying for it with a lot more cases and more deaths that could have been prevented".More news: Canadians who have lost their jobs anxiously awaiting federal help
