Miss Myanmar Swe Zin Htet, pictured far left with fellow contestants and Cirque du Soleil members, has come out as gay.
For the evening gown competition, she wore a yellow gown, which was reminiscent of the one she wore during her crowning moment as Binibining Pilipinas-Miss Universe.
The 21-year-old, who has chosen preventing child abuse as her cause to advocate for during the contest, told People: "I have that platform that, if I say that I'm a lesbian, it will have a big impact on the LGBTQ community back in Burma".

Swe Zin Htet, the reigning Miss Myanmar, is making major progress for both her country and for the Miss Universe pageant as a whole.
"The hard thing is that in Burma, LGBTQ people are not accepted", Htet continued.
Htet came out in an interview on November 29 with the popular pageant blog Missosology.
"At first, they were mad".

Under Myanmar's laws, citizens can be punished for the "unnatural offense of carnal intercourse against the order of nature", according to a refugee legal aid group. "Miss Universe will always champion women to be proud of who they are".
