Warmer air should drift in by mid-morning on Tuesday, changing the precipitation back to rain, the weather service said in its Friday forecast discussion.
Friday night into Saturday morning, heavy rain will spread into the Northeast with flooding possible, especially in New England where the ground is frozen so water has nowhere to go. "Localized higher amounts of 3 to 3.50 inches are possible", the weather service said. "This will bring the potential for flooding, which will continue through the weekend on some rivers as a result of runoff".
