Wendy's plans to take on breakfast - a meal that more and more fast food joints are offering - in the new year, according to a news release from the company. Wendy's breakfast offerings are rounded out by the "breakfast baconator": a hefty concoction of egg, bacon, sausage, American cheese and hollandaise sauce. In fact, the company has trimmed its 2019 guidance due to the investment in breakfast plans.
"Launching breakfast into our USA restaurants nationwide provides incredible growth opportunities", CEO Todd Penegor said in a statement. Sales at Wendy's have been growing at a slower clip than at larger burger rivals McDonald's and Burger King, which have both offered breakfast items for years.
However, this isn't the first time the food chain has attempted to roll out a breakfast menu. The menu didn't expand nationwide after an initial test because of tough competition, according to food industry blog BrandEating.

FOX Business reached out to Wendy's for comment at the time of this report, however, the fast-food chain said it will reveal more information during its Investor Day on October 11, 2019.
McDonald's has long served many breakfast items in its stores nationwide.
