Have you ever visited a hotel and thought to yourself "Boy, this place would be so much better if the entire roof was a pool"?
Decent enough shout for all involved.
First reported by CNN today and spreading faster than a Trump tweet, the "death defying swimming pool"-as the company refers to it-is a 158,500-gallon cast acrylic tank on top of a 55-story building".
If the above happens to be your dream, your wish, you fantasy, you're in luck because a few architects in the United Kingdom are planning just that.
The pool will have see-through sides and floor, with no visible steps at the edge.More news: Three dead after eating pre-packed sandwiches
For Compass Pool designers, having uninterrupted views above and below the water was an essential component, so they avoided putting any stairs that would obstruct views outside the building or in the pool and went with an unconventional method instead.
Sound excessive? You're not wrong.
"We faced some quite major technical challenges to this building, the biggest one being how to actually get into the pool", says Mr Kemsley.
The building's designers have also planned for a five-star global hotel to sit underneath the pool in the top levels of the skyscraper.
Sounds mad. But yeah, wouldn't mind a little dip in it, tbh.More news: Manchester United Holding Off Pushing For Tottenham Target Bruno Fernandes
Get the togs at the ready, lads.
Lights will come on at night to make it appear as though the pool is sparkling atop the building, while a built-in monitor for wind speed will ensure water levels remain stable to avoid water spilling to the streets below. The system will also maintain the water's temperature and the pool's heating system will use the waste energy from the building's air-conditioner system.
The architectural concept hails from UK-based swimming pool creators Compass Pools and, should it get the go-ahead, swimming atop a giant skyscraper will be a must for anyone looking for a totally unique way to view London's skyline.
Construction is set to begin in 2020, once they get all the contractors and partners lined up.
The staircase would rise up in one corner of the pool (you can see the outline of a circle in the bottom-right corner of the picture above) from the floor below, which would be used for changing rooms and services.More news: Chris Pratt & Katherine Schwarzenegger Are Married!
