An auger in the hopper caught Kaser's leg, pulling it in and mangling it. "I thought, well, I was goin' in", Kaser added.
"I had my pocket knife and I thought "well, the only way I'm getting outta here is to cut it off" so I just started sawing on it".
"I was 45 minutes away from home when this happened, they were flying him away as I was arriving and I didn't get to see how he was doing before that", his wife, Lori, told CNN.More news: FCC to propose rules blocking robocalls
Kaser was alone and did not have his phone on him, so he said he felt like his only choice was to cut off his leg with his pocket knife.
"The bone stuck out down to my ankle", Kaser told Omaha World-Herald. Kaser says he never lost consciousness.
This isn't the first time Kaser has had a scare like this on the farm.
After he tried to free himself but couldn't, Kaser decided the only way out was by losing a limb.
"Adrenaline kicked in so much that I don't know if it hurt or not", he said. "That's what I was hanging onto as I was trying to get myself out".More news: Liverpool's Klopp to put players through 'preseason' ahead of Champions League final
"I guess I'm stubborn".
After freeing himself he crawled 200ft to the nearest telephone and was flown to a hospital.
The scare happened about three weeks ago, but he just got released from the rehabilitation center on Friday.
Once his leg is healed, he'll be fitted for a prosthetic and should be able to walk again.
Despite the nature of the accident, Kaser told local media that he remains optimistic because he will be able to walk again one day.More news: Madonna rejects calls for Tel Aviv Eurovision boycott
