The Magpies will bring down the curtain on another tough season at Fulham on Sunday with their Premier League status intact and perhaps even with a point more than they managed by the end of the last campaign.
Goals from Jonjo Shelvey, Ayoze Perez, Fabian Schar and Salomon Rondon sealed the deal on a sunny afternoon in London, sending the fanatical away support home happy.
Despite his happiness at the result, the former Liverpool and Real Madrid boss stopped short of confirming whether he would remain at the club next season.
On Benitez, he added: "If you want to compete for something, Europa League or Champions League, this is the main target for the club".More news: Samsung Smart TVs Gain Apple's TV App and AirPlay 2 Support
"I said before that I have seen potential but now is the time to enjoy", he stated when asked what the future held. "It was a very good performance".
"Wonderful strike from Shelvey gets them off to a great start and then the best three players of the season for Newcastle - Perez, Schar and Salomon Rondon - were all involved in scoring the goals".

"It's now 24 goals (23 actually in Premier League (12 Perez, 11 Rondon) plus one each for them in the cups) between Rondon and Perez now".
Rafael Benitez will go into his meeting with Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley next week in "a positive way", and spoke confidently of reaching a compromise that will allow him to sign a new contract.
"If it was me I'd do that because he's been excellent".
The 44 points they collected last season was enough to secure 10th place on their first season back in the top flight, but they will run out at Craven Cottage on 42, eight adrift of Watford who now occupy that spot.More news: Ireland Bans US Hate Pastor, First Ban Under 1999 Act
It remains to be seen whether Benitez decide to commit his future to the club in the coming days and weeks.
