Nearly two years after the horrific Elphinstone foot overbridge (FOB) stampede incident in Mumbai, which killed 22, a foot overbridge connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus platform with BT Lane collapsed Thursday killing four people and injured more than 30 others. Rescuers ended their search operation at the collapsed bridge about two hours after it fell, Satpal said, adding that authorities were sure there was no one trapped because the rubble had been cleared away.

In June a year ago, six people were injured after a part of Road Over Bridge (ROB) collapsed on the railway tracks near Andheri station towards Vile Parle on South end.

An excavator was brought in to clear the debris that had blocked the movement of traffic on a busy road in south Mumbai. "Even after that if such incident happened, it raises question on the audit".
He offered condolences to the families of the victims and expressed hope that the administration will take swift action and provide urgent medical help to injured.

Local BJP MLA Raj Purohit also visited the spot and demanded immediate action against the engineer who had declared the bridge as "safe". "An NDRF team has been moved from Andheri center", NDRF said. It is a public FOB.
However, it was not on the list of eight dilapidated bridges in the city, which the corporation had published a week back while stating that the bridges would be repaired soon.
The CSMT bridge, near the landmark Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, was built in 1984.
The major repairs of 223 bridges in the city began after the audit, while 176 bridges are under minor repairs.
