The NFL announced Friday Hunt has been suspended eight games for violating the league's personal conduct policy in connection with physical altercations at his residence in Cleveland last February and at a resort in OH last June.
Hunt will not appeal the suspension.
Hunt was placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List in November of 2018 after video was released publicly of Hunt assaulting a woman in a hotel hallway back in February of 2018. The Chiefs released Hunt in the middle of the 2018 regular season shortly after the video emerged.More news: Is Jordy Nelson the veteran WR the Steelers need?
"I want to again apologize for my actions past year". The Browns signed him in February.
The league's last eight-game suspension is believed to be for former Rams safety T.J. McDonald, who was arrested in May 2017 after he was suspected of driving under the influence of prescription drugs and pleaded no contest earlier that year to a charge of "wet reckless" - which in essence is a reduced form of a DUI charge. "I know that my behavior hurt a lot of people, and I again apologize to them", Hunt said in a statement. "I respect the league's decision on discipline, and I appreciate the time I spent with Commissioner Goodell last week", Hunt said in a statement issued by the Browns.
Hunt admitted he was "in the wrong" and apologized to the woman in the video, the Chiefs organization, and his family.More news: Theresa May loses voice and vote
"The findings followed a detailed investigation by the National Football League, which included reviewing available law enforcement records, video and electronic communications, interviews with numerous witnesses and multiple interviews with Hunt", the National Football League said in a news release. I'm extremely grateful that John Dorsey, Dee and Jimmy Haslam and the Cleveland Browns organization are granting me the opportunity to earn their trust and represent their organization in the best way possible on and off the field. General manager John Dorsey drafted Hunt in Kansas City and felt the OH native was contrite and deserved a second chance. I also appreciate all of the support I received from my union through this process.
The NFL has been criticized in the past for inconsistency with suspension length for various offenses.
Before that, he was on pace to match or beat his 1327 rushing yards and had seven rushing touchdowns to go along with seven receiving touchdowns before being released.More news: This is how Bellingham students are protesting inaction on climate change
