Ford revealed mid-March the only thing stopping its new Shelby Mustang GT500 from reaching near-supercar status is Ford itself, who has somewhat neutered the car's performance with an electronic nanny limiting the top speed to 180 miles per hour (290 km/h). "Not only did this improve the effectiveness of the designs, it dramatically reduced the time it took to develop the GT500 - and the costs associated with that".
To save time when creating all these different parts, Ford used the manufacturing wonder of our time, 3D printing, at the Advanced Manufacturing Center in Redford, Michigan.
They ran the vehicle at NOLA Motorsports Park in New Orleans, Virginia International Raceway, and Gingerman Raceway in Western Michigan.

Cooling systems, front fascias, splitters, brake ducting, rear spoiler designs and a large louvered hood vent were all shaped and reshaped until they fit.
Speeding development time, the most promising designs were printed in a matter of days, not months, allowing the team to increase the fidelity of performance and aerodynamic refinement.
Ford's long-anticipated, upcoming Mustang Shelby GT500 produces maximum rear downforce of 550 pounds at 180 miles per hour when equipped with the optional Mustang GT4-like rear wing that comes as part of the Carbon-Fiber Track Package. Ford calls the standard spoiler a "swing" because it exists somewhere between a spoiler and a wing. The downforce number is 379 pounds at the same speed from the Handling package's smaller wing that features a Gurney flap.More news: Pi dream: Googler sets record for most digits calculated
Up front, the new fascia doubles the air volume to cool the powerful engine through six heat exchangers.
A removable rain tray further aids cooling and works to reduce underhood air pressure at high speeds, while a Shelby-specific rear diffuser helps channel under-car airflow. Two new racing-style oil and transmission coolers ensure the auto can handle track temperatures as well.
Ford Performance resorted to a number of tricks to keep the GT500's nose down on weight despite all the added coolers and other parts, but Tranter says Ford Performance isn't ready to reveal how that mass compares with that of the donor GT350's nose.More news: Khloe Kardashian "Upset" At Tristan Thompson's Lack Of Effort In Raising True
