The film's producers had announced on Thursday that they will not release Varmaa directed by Bala as they were not happy with the output. "Considering Dhruv Vikram's future, I would like to end this here", said Bala in his official statement.

In a statement to the press on Saturday, director Bala said that he was compelled to speak up "due to the false statement from the producer of Varmaa". Director Bala will be the one who would be most affected by scrapping the movie and reshooting it with a new director.
"Henceforth, E4 Entertainment has the entire rights in perpetuity for the above said film and is free to make changes, additions with the help of technicians and crew of their choice in completing the film", states the agreement. Earlier, the makers were planning to release the film during the Valentine's Day of this year but later, the team members of the film came up with an announcement that the film has been postponed to another date. Due to various creative and other differences, we have decided not to release this version. "Despite this unfortunate turn of events which has cost us heavily, our love for wanting to see this cult film in Tamil has not diminished in any way". According to the agreement, Bala was given full freedom while making Varmaa including the necessary changes needed and the director delivered the product. In an agreement ending the association between the filmmaker Bala and Mukesh Mehta, the film's producer, Bala had requested, as a pre-condition, that his name is "completely removed from this project".
