Nine people were declared dead and 150,000 evacuated as fierce wildfires raged across the western USA state of California, with one rapidly spreading blaze threatening the famed resort of Malibu.
They show the charred remains of homes and cars in Paradise, where at least nine people were killed by the flames.
"The preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were located in vehicles that were overcome by the Camp Fire".
Another 35 people had been reported missing and three firefighters had been injured.
In Southern California, about two-thirds of the city of Malibu was ordered evacuated early Friday as a ferocious wildfire roared toward the beachside community that is home to about 13,000 residents, some of them Hollywood celebrities.

Acting California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in the area and requested a federal emergency declaration, saying that high winds and dry brush presented ongoing danger.
The wildfire was reported at 6:30 a.m., Rick Carhart, a Cal Fire spokesman, said.
At the hospital in Paradise, more than 60 patients were evacuated to other facilities. More than 2,200 firefighters have been dispatched to the scene, including several crews from the Bay Area.
By Friday morning, a day after the fire broke out along Pulga Road at Camp Creek Road in Butte County, firefighters said about 80 percent of the town, population 26,000, was lost. "It was the event we have feared for a long time", Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said at a Friday evening news conference. "And it moved very, very quickly from a rather remote area to populated areas".
"Not one home will be left standing", he said.

"Due to the burn injuries, identification could not be immediately made", the office said in a statement released Friday.
The fast-moving Hill fires started near the community of Thousand Oaks, which was in the midst of grappling with the Wednesday night shooting that killed 12 at the Borderline nightclub.
The erupted Thursday near the northwest corner of the city of Los Angeles as the region's notorious Santa Ana winds gusted, triggering overnight evacuations of an estimated 75,000 homes in western Los Angeles County and eastern Ventura County. "This is a very risky wind-driven fire".
On Friday, the flames jumped Highway 101 and headed into coastal areas.
