The world's largest chat platform for gaming, Discord, has over 150 million users. The voice chat app has made itself a mainstay on most gaming PCs, and now the company plans to expand the feature set to include a store and a subscription library of games. The company is even launching a "First on Discord" program where indie game developers will exclusively release some of their new games on Discord, and then make the titles available elsewhere after 90 days of exclusivity. According to the company's official blog, they're launching a store where players can purchase games and boot them up straight from the app launcher, similar to what Steam and GOG are now offering. Discord says that the games offered on the beta service will be title specifically curated by its employees.
The $4.99 per month Nitro membership will now include access to a library of older games at no extra cost. As of today, it has entered a closed beta for 50,000 Canadian Discord users, though they have to be subscribers of Discord Nitro in order to qualify.More news: Man United wins opener against Leicester City
The retail store will initially sell the following games: "Dead Cells", "Frostpunk", "Omensight", "Into the Breach", "SpellForce 3", "The Banner Saga 3", "Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire", "Hollow Knight", "Moonlighter", "This is the Police 2", and "Starbound".
Resmini also explains why Discord's just now getting into the sales business. This will also serve as a discovery service that will promote games with a boutique feel according to the announcement.

As some developers, like Bethesda, choose to pull away from Steam, Discord is offering an alternative platform as well as a new way to find their previously purchased titles. There will even be a "Universal Library", which will allow users to play any of their PC games through Discord, without the need for a different launcher.
At this time, it is unclear how long the beta period will last. "This is all in beta, so things may change by the time we're ready to launch".More news: Tesla shareholder tells IGTV he’s 'not thrilled' about the take-private plan
