Analysts were expecting earnings per share of $1.08 on revenue of $29.2 billion for the last quarter of Microsoft's fiscal year.
The Redmond tech company announced a revenue bump of more than 17 percent to $30.1 billion for its fourth quarter of the year, continuing its recent trend of beating Wall Street analyst expectations almost every period.
Microsoft's Intelligent Cloud business unit, which consists largely of Azure, Server, and enterprise services, saw revenues grow 23 percent to $9.6 billion.

"Exceptional sales execution delivered double-digit revenue growth across all segments and strong progress against our strategic priorities, anchored by commercial cloud revenue growing 53% year-over-year to $6.9 billion", said Amy Hood, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Microsoft. Microsoft has shifted its focus in recent years from developing software for consumers to providing services for businesses, such as cloud computing and social networking for professionals. Revenues for the fiscal year, which also ended June 30, were $110.4 billion.
Revenue was up 17% year-over-year to $30.1 billion.
"Office consumer products and cloud services revenue increased 8 per cent and Office 365 consumer subscribers increased to 31.4 million", Microsoft said, adding that LinkedIn revenue increased 37 per cent. It was up 23 percent YoY to $9.6 billion for the quarter, and reached $32.2 billion for the year, marking a 15 percent increase. Microsoft has announced technology partnerships with other major firms in recent months including General Electric, Starbucks, Bayer, Spain's Telefonica and sports organisations such as the National Basketball Association and PGA.
Switching gears to the More Personal Computing category, revenue increased by 17 percent, moving up to $10.8 billion.
