Leimome Cheeks, 62, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly transporting her two grandchildren in pet kennels in the trunk of her vehicle.
They said they had charged Cheeks with two counts of Child Endangerment. The unidentified children told officers they were very hot in the kennels because there was no ventilation in the back of the auto to keep them cool.
The children are OK, according to police, but the same can't be said for Leimome Cheeks.
The report also notes that the temperature "reached 95 degrees and there were no vents in the rear of the Ford Explorer".More news: P.E.I. premier supports Trudeau trade retaliation
A woman has been caught unlocking two children from pet kennels inside the back of her vehicle.
Cowan said she didn't think that Cheeks knew she was doing something wrong.
Cowan recently bought two German Shepard puppies, neighbors told WREG.
The video was filmed by a concerned citizen who passed by. She said they were later allowed to ride in the backseat.More news: United States military in Korea says no guidance on cancelling war games
"I mean it could be an honest mistake".
She also drove to downtown Memphis, telling police she made stops to check on them periodically. Officers saw that the children were no longer inside the kennels but were seated in the back seat, the affidavit said. Two neighbors told WMC Cheeks was a "super good neighbor".
The 62-year-old was being held Sunday at Shelby County Jail.
Before the hearing, Cheeks sat outside the court room and turned down interview requests, according to the Commercial Appeal.More news: Neymar mocks Austria's 'UFC' tactics after Brazil win
