As was the case with the nation as a whole, Sophia and Sofia combined would have far outstripped Emma in California: There were 2,726 new Emmas in the state past year, but more than 4,000 babies named Sophia or Sofia. The Social Security Administration released their most popular boy and girl baby names of 2017 in each state on Thursday. To the 208 recorded Emmas in OR, 207 baby girls were named Olivia-pretty close.
The agency began compiling the baby name list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880. Zoe/Zoey would have grabbed a top 10 spot as well.

Rounding out the top five in OH are Ava, Olivia, Harper and Charlotte for girls, and Carter, Noah, William and Lucas for boys.
