There were 45 people, including 38 students, on the bus. Forty-three of them were injured. The two other buses were not involved in the crash and sent back tot he school.

K-9 units were seen searching wooded areas near the crash scene, NBC 4 NY reported. The front of it was barely recognizable, a mangled chunk of broken-apart machinery spread from the highway shoulder lane through the guardrail and into the grassy median, where police and first responders are seen tending to stunned children.
"They were young kids", he said.

"But it was their work, their effort that helped save some of these students".
The New Jersey State Police and Morris County Prosecutor are investigating the cause of the crash. School will be held Friday, and grief counselors will be on hand to help students and staff.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 118 people on school buses were killed in crashes from 2007-2016, the previous year for which data is available.

The Paramus superintendent says that all remaining field trips will be canceled for the year. Mount Olive township confirmed to a local paper that students from their district were not involved.
