Two Sunderland beaches have each won two coveted awards marking their status among the best in the country.

Seaside Awards are handed out by Keep Britain Tidy, to beaches that "meet the highest standards for cleanliness and facilities".
Two Brighton beaches got recognition - Brighton Central and Hove Lawns, while six beaches in the town of Thanet have been awarded Blue Flag status: Minnis Bay, West Bay, St Mildreds, Botany Bay, Margate Main Sands and Stone Bay.More news: A what? Police respond to kangaroo on the loose in SC
The beach has also been handed a Seaside Award from Keep Britain Tidy, one of 125 beaches in the country to do so. The City of Barrie Marina has been Blue Flag certified since 2015. It's fantastic to see so many of our beaches receiving these awards, which is testament to the work being done by our partners and communities across Wales to keep our beaches and waters clean.

Bell Park Beach and Moonlight Beach are among 27 beaches and nine marinas across Canada to win the prestigious Blue Flag eco-certification.

For three decades, the Blue Flag programme, which is owned by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), has had a transformational impact on water quality, environmental awareness, protection, safety and services. Our research shows that almost two thirds (65 per cent) of parents would prefer to visit beaches with Blue Flag or Seaside Award status, so growing the number of beaches with an award is vital to encourage more families to visit our lovely coastline. "Hopefully next year we'll see an even greater number joining us as we drive up standards across the board".
