Messaging service WhatsApp rolled out new group-chat features on Tuesday, including more controls for administrators as well as regular group members.
The company stated that chat groups are an important part of the WhatsApp experience, and it has made a decision to implement improvements to the functionality. As per the new updates, now, the company has added Group description, Admin controls, Group catch up and Participant search features to revamp Groups. These features are available for both Android and iPhone users. It will be interesting to see how this new change affects the flow of discussion in larger groups. This will explain the group's "purpose, guidelines, or topics" and will be visible at the top of the screen to new members. WhatsApp Groups can have as many as 256 people and this will make this easy to do. While these changes to WhatsApp group chat have generally been well-received, there have been some actions from the company in the past few months that have drawn the ire of a significant population in India.
There are also new admin controls that restrict who can change items like the subject, icon and the description. Just like any feature, there is room to grow and that is what WhatsApp is doing to groups. Now with Group catch up, you can quickly catch up on messages that people mentioned you by tapping on the new @ button that appears at the bottom right.

Finally, WhatsApp users will be able to search for participants in a group, by visiting the Group info section within a group. Administrators can revoke admin permissions and also prevent the group's creator from being removed from the group.
