The report also indicated there could be links between major depression and other health conditions.
Psychiatrist, Dr. Karyn Horowitz, said, "Increase in use of electronic gadgets like video games in case of boys and texting/social media in case of girls, can cause the increased dispute within both peers and the home". Diagnoses of major depression have increased since 2013, particularly among adolescents and millennials, according to a report published May 10 by Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS). Warning signs may include shifts in mood (not just sadness but symptoms such as increased irritability), sleep disturbance, changes in eating patterns (too much or too little), decline in academic performance, and social isolation.
Earlier this year, the American Academy of Pediatrics updated its guidelines on treating teen depression, including endorsing a universal screening for children ages 12 and over. The rate of depression in Maine, Minnesota, and Utah Rhode Island are at 6% which is highest in the country. "There may be many more men out there who are depressed, but they don't report it".
