The nabbed person has been identified as Shashi Singh.
The minor girl had alleged that she was raped by Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the BJP legislator from Unnao, and his brother a year ago, but the police refused to take any action against them. Shubham Singh has been included as an accused. He was later sent to seven-day CBI custody.
She has also alleged that while the MLA was sexually assaulting her daughter, Shashi Singh stood outside the room as a guard.More news: Harrisonville superintendent on paid leave through June, can't work in district again
She also thanked the media and the CBI for taking up her battle that so far was a "lonely and losing battle".
After producing the victim in the Special CBI Court on Monday, the CBI is likely to take her back to Makhi village in Unnao and the places where she was gang-raped to recreate scenes of crime. The UP police filed the charge sheet in August 2017, blaming Shubham, Brijesh and Awadh for rape, only on the basis of girl's statement recorded before a magistrate.
Earlier, the victim, who along with her mother and uncle, were brought here under tight security in the morning, underwent tests at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital. The FIR was lodged under Section 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping for objective of marriage), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 3/4 of the POCSO Act.More news: Bruins Fall to Maple Leafs 4-2 in Game 3
The FIR itself came days after the Unnao girl tried to self-immolate in front of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's house on Sunday accusing authorities of inaction, and the death of her father in custody the next day allegedly after being beaten up by the politician's brother and their henchmen in front of policemen, as mentioned earlier. The provisions of the Act are slapped on accused if the victim is minor child and below 18 years of age. He said, "Some goons of Kuldeep Sengar (accused BJP MLA) are threatening villagers to keep quiet". Subsequently, the UP police allegedly delayed the medical examination of the girl and did not send the vaginal swab or her clothes to a forensic laboratory.
A CBI official, who is involved in investigating the Unna rape and murder case, however, told the DNA that they have already got a thorough medical check-up of the victim done.More news: Perkasie Police investigate armed robbery at McDonald's
