According to an official, Sengar is now being interrogated by the CBI sleuths. The lawyer of Sengar, Surender Singh said that they support fair investigation and that is why they didn't opposed his custody. The court said that it would monitor the case and directed the CBI to submit a progress report by May 2, when the matter would be heard again.

What seems to have compounded trouble for the Yogi government is the fact that the Unnao rape case has come simultaneously with the horrific rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl at Kathua in Jammu. The Yogi government had lodged a case of rape against Sengar but decided against arresting him, saying that a decision on taking him into custody will be taken by the CBI.
The victim had alleged that on June 4, 2017, she was raped by the MLA at his residence, when she had gone to meet him, along with a relative, seeking a job.
