The first content update is set to arrive in early May 2018 and is called "The Hungering Deep.' This content pack brings a new threat to Sea of Thieves" world that players will need to work together to fight.
The game will also begin to see weekly events starting in May with new rewards to be won.
Executive Producer Joe Neate and Design Director Mike Chapman would not go into specifics but explained a "new AI threat" will be introduced to the game along with a new item, new unlocks, and new ways to bring crews together in the game world.More news: A new BioShock game is apparently in development

During the Summer, the Cursed Sails event will welcome a new ship type and Forsaken Shores will open up the Sea of Thieves to a new world for players to explore. Details on these are scarcer, but there'll be a new ship, and a brand new part of the world to sail. Those events will introduce new mechanics, new ways to play with things like new hidden treasures, trading companies, and other things that enhance the world. Some new mechanics will be added and unique rewards for completing the event are incoming. The studio added that the previously announced ship captaincy mechanic and the microtransactions based pets have been delayed to prioritize development of the upcoming content updates.

With that, other tools will be added to the game that give crews more tools to communicate with other crews to make tracking down this threat more user-friendly.
