The firefighter who lost his life was identified as Michael Davidson, 37, a 15-year department veteran.

The blaze erupted Thursday night in the basement of an unoccupied Harlem building.
He also clarified that, despite reports, he was not the one who smelled smoke and raised the alarm about the fire. According to neighbors, set decorations included a sign reading "King Rooster Jazz Club" that was set up outside the building.
