He was arrested in February for allegedly taking money to facilitate Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media in 2007 when his father was the Finance Minister in the UPA Government. "His father P Chidambaram has dealt with stringent penal laws including TADA, MCOCA, UAPA and NDPS posing a huge security threat to Karti", Krishnan said, adding that Karti can not be exposed to criminals.
The 1995 death of biscuit baron Rajan Pillai was also cited, as Karti Chidambaram said he did not want to be exposed to attacks.
Meanwhile, Karti will now have to wait for his bail plea to be heard, which has been slated for March 15, to get any reprieve.

After the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told Special Judge Sunil Rana they did not require further custody of Karti Chidambaram, the court remanded him in judicial custody.
Stressed on Karti Chidambaram's visits, he said that if the accused did not face any threat then, how did he now fear it in the jail, where there is deployment of large number of security personnel.
Karti Chidambaram was produced before Delhi's Patiala House Court on Monday after his three-day CBI custody ended.
CBI counsel V K Sharma opposed the application for a separate cell and bathroom saying there was no threat to Karti. Today the CBI would appraise the court about the fresh details that have cropped up following the questioning of Karti's chartered accountant, Bhaskararaman. The Court agreed to Karti's demand for medicines and spectacle but rejected his demand to provide him with home cook food.
Karti has been in the custody of the CBI since his arrest on February 28, which was supposed to end on Friday.
The interim relief from "any coercive action" taken by the ED came a day after the Supreme Court transferred to the Delhi High Court, his plea seeking quashing of summons issued by the probe agency.
Karti is under the custody of the CBI which produced him today before a special court here which sent him to judicial custody till March 24 in the INX Media corruption case and dismissed his plea that he be put in a separate cell in Tihar Jail in view of a threat perception.
