Other manufacturers such as Sony and Samsung have long since stopped making laptops, but Huawei reckons there's still money to be made - especially on premium models.
The displays of the two variants of the Huawei MediaPad M5 are different sizes, but otherwise they're identical. If you buy something featured, we may earn an affiliate commission which helps support our work.
One thing that I found particularly interesting about this mechanism is that when you open the MateBook X Pro, the camera will be in the same state that it was previously. Partly that's down to upgrades such as a touchscreen and the latest Intel processor, but also with a lower price that's created to undercut the MacBook. It's telling that Huawei's previous MediaPad tablet dates back from September 2016.
How much does the MateBook X Pro cost? The tablet will be available in select countries soon with a starting price of Euro 349, which is approximately Rs 28,000.More news: 'Keeper concedes goal after stopping to take mid-game water break
Huawei's sophomore effort into the laptop space brings the smartphone-specific FullView display to the MateBook X.
Other highlights in the MateBook X Pro include the camera position. First is that there's now a 13.9in screen rather than 13in.
With the higher screen-to-body ratio's, the companies are placing the camera on notebooks at weird places.
The "Pro" moniker doesn't necessarily mean top-end performance, though given the thin-and-light nature of this laptop it's not exactly expected either. The 3,000 x 2,000 resolution ensures that detail should be pin-sharp as well. The display can reach 450 NITs of brightness and covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut, which is a good standard benchmark for color reproduction. It's a touchscreen panel, but while we're still not convinced of the utility of touchscreens on traditional clamshells, it's nice to have - and it's protected by Gorilla Glass to guard against drops. Again, cues have been taken from the MacBook here. And it has got 1 USB-A, 2 USB-C and a headphone jack to suit all your needs.More news: Celebrities, ex-Wildcats react to Sean Miller's involvement in Federal Bureau of Investigation scandal
The device supports Thunderbolt 3 port which enables support for adding multiple accessories to the device with improved data transfer rates. The answer: At the bottom of the MediaPad M5, together with the volume rocker and the USB port. In another nod to Apple, Huawei has included a fingerprint-sensitive power button that takes the device from completely off to logged-in and ready to with just a single press.
Additionally, Huawei has licensed the Dolby Atmos surround sound rendering engine.
What are the MateBook X Pro specifications? The cheaper version has a Core i5-8250U, 8GB of RAM and uses the chip's integrated UHD 620 graphics. The 8th-gen Intel i7 powered MateBook X Pro with 8GB RAM + 512GB storage and 16GB RAM + 512GB storage costs Euro 1699 and Euro 1899 respectively.
Both models have an NVMe SSD, with the more expensive one getting 512GB of storage.More news: Oklahoma women's basketball: Sooners win fourth straight, beat Texas Tech 79-61
With all these specs, the MateBook X Pro is powered by a 57.4Wh battery that is mentioned to give up to 12 hours of video playback. The company claims the device can charge in just 1.9 hours and can last entire day.
