The team investigating the murder of Mattannuru, Kannur resident youth Congress activist Shuhaib arrested two accused on February 18. But, the real motive is unclear though the accused said that the attack was carried out with the knowledge of the local leadership. The police claim is that the accused were arrested after a raid and that they did not surrender at the police station.

"All the concerns raised by the Congress leaders and questions regarding the murder of Shuhaib will be answered. Police will cooperate in CBI investigations also if necessary". The Congress has accused the CPM for the murders and has called for a strike on Tuesday. "Stringent action will be taken against them by the police and everyone involved behind the murder of Shuhaib will be arrested", said Pinarayi Vijayan. It seems a drama enacted by the party to save its face.
The surrender comes in the backdrop of the Congress sharpening its attack on the ruling CPI (M) over the killing.
