Currently, 28 percent of Happy Meal combinations offered on menu boards meet the company's new nutrition criteria in in 20 major markets - the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Argentina, U.K., France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Taiwan and Australia.
That's the aim of a set of new global menu goals for child customers, announced Thursday, to reduce calories, fat, sodium and added sugar from the ultimate fast food kid magnet.

The only options for main entrees will be the hamburger and four or six-piece Chicken McNuggets.
In a move that might not make kids happy but please their parents, McDonald's is eliminating cheeseburgers and chocolate milk from Happy Meals.
It is planning to add less sugar in chocolate milk. Aside from those guidelines, they will also work on removing artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives when they can, and will be transparent about nutrition information for customers.
That means at least half of the Happy Meals on menus around the world will be under 600 calories and under 650 mg of sodium, with less than 10 percent of calories from saturated fat and less than 10 percent of calories from added sugar. "Given our scale and reach, we hope these actions will bring more choices to consumers and uniquely benefit millions of families, which are important steps as we build a better McDonald's". The cheeseburger will only be available at customer request.
McDonald's has also increased the choice of Happy Meal combinations, with mums and dads able to swap fries for carrot sticks or a fruit bag.
It will also use mobile apps to promote the healthier food and drink options in Happy Meals.
