Charleston police say the mother of a missing SC toddler was brutally beaten by a man before the child went missing. She was reported missing on Johns Island shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials with the Charleston Police Department are looking in the area of 2985 Sweetleaf Lane on Johns Island in the Whitney Lake subdivision.
