Revealed on Friday ahead of a likely debut at next week's 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Bentayga V8 sports a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 delivering 550 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque.
With a 0 to 60 acceleration of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 180mph the V8 nearly matches the W12 for performance and fuel economy is rated at 24mpg with emissions of 260g/km.
The generous output allows the Bentayga V8 to cover the 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in 4.5 seconds, making it just 0.4 seconds slower than the Bentayga W12.More news: Steve Bannon to testify before House committee on Russian Federation probe
Power is fed through an eight-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel-drive, and the V8 petrol achieves 24.8mpg and emissions of 260g/km CO2.
Developing 542bhp the Bentayga V8 is fitted with stop/start and a cylinder cut out device to aid economy giving the huge SUV a theoretical range of 464 miles with an 18.7 gallon fuel tank.
Another reason is that the V8 model can be had with optional carbon-ceramic brakes - a first for the Bentayga.More news: 200 arrested, dozens harm in contemporary Tunisia unrest
The Bentayga V8's sporty nature is underlined by the inclusion of Bentley Dynamic Ride, a system that minimises body roll in corners, along with advanced stability and traction controls systems.
Premium British manufacturer Bentley has made a decision to beef up the performance of the Bentayga SUV by adding a V8 engine option. The car's suspension can also be set at different heights to suit the driver's needs. The vehicle gets an eight-inch infotainment system that features a 60GB hard drive, while rear-seat passengers can make use of the new Bentley Entertainment Tablet if specified, which is a 10.2-inch Android tablet with 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. Top speed also positions it just below the 12-cylinder model: the V8 touches 290 km/h (180 mph) while the W12 tops out at 301 km/h (187 mph). There are three sound systems available, the most powerful of which has 18 speakers for awesome surround sound. All-new 22-inch wheels are fitted, as is a black and chrome grille at the front and quad exhaust pipes at the rear.
Bentley hasn't announced availability but look for the Bentayga V8 to make its way into showrooms this spring.More news: PC market shows small signs of life as Q4 worldwide shipments grow
Visually there's not too much to distinguish the V8 from the W12, but inside you do get a new wood and hide steering wheel and high gloss carbon fibre trim (although we're sure Bentley will let you have whatever you want). The same four, five or seven-seat layout as other models can be specified, along with a near-endless combination of trim materials and high-quality leathers.
