THE Golden Globes are often seen as a just a warm-up to the Academy Awards, providing A-listers with the chance to rehearse their red-carpet strut before the real show begins.
The stars are on the red carpet and heading in to the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Not one to pull political punches on his late-night show, Meyers said he plans to target his commentary toward Hollywood instead of Washington on Sunday.
Oprah Winfrey will be honored with the Cecil B. deMille Award, which Streep was awarded previous year.
"Good evening ladies and remaining gentleman", Meyers said to open the show.
Initially a loose push to reduce emphasis on talking about the clothes female celebrities wear, in favour of the more substantial topic of sexual harassment, "Time's Up" was formalised into a more coherent movement last week. In the week leading up to the awards ceremony, more than 300 Hollywood industry figures including actors, directors and writers, launched the Time's Up campaign to address workplace sexual harassment misconduct.
"'Did you hear about William Defoe?' 'Oh God no!' 'He was nominated!' 'Don't do that!'" He's also proven himself to be more openly willing to admit when he, a straight white guy, can't speak to certain experiences the way, say, his women writers can.
Claiming the first award of the night, Australian actress Nicole Kidman flicked at social change - "I do believe and I hope that we can elicit change through the stories we tell and the way we tell them" - but also kept things close to home in her acceptance speech.
In TV, The Handmaid's Tale, the television series about a dystopian reality where women are forced into becoming surrogates for a brutal male hierarchy, won two awards, including best actress in a drama award for Elizabeth Moss.

Disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein became the butt of Meyers' jokes at the Golden Globes.
He then quipped: 'Harvey Weinstein isn't here tonight because I've heard rumours he's insane and hard to work with, but don't worry, he will be back in 20 years when he becomes the first person booed during the In Memoriam'.

But it wasn't all swipes at fallen Hollywood stars. So on Late Night, Meyers regularly features a segment called "Jokes Seth Can't Tell", in which he hands off the punchlines to writers Amber Ruffin and Jenny Hagel (who are black and gay, respectively).
Speaking of actor Seth Rogan, who in 2014 directed and starred in "The Interview", a satire about a plot to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, Meyers said "I am not even the most powerful Seth in the room tonight".More news: Eli Lilly and (LLY) Upgraded at Argus
